Program Profile
Choreography is a way of interacting with the world throughvarious methods and approaches that can provide new and differentperspectives from which to look at life - whether we are looking at ourselves, our fellow human beings or our immediate environment.

Students enrolled in the Master’s program in Choreography offeredby the University College of Dance engage in in-depth studies ofchoreographic methods, techniques and forms of expression in orderto develop their individual approaches, working methods andpersonal styles. The tutoring within the program is extensive anddemanding. Students are given a solid foundation for choreographicwork, provided with a wide-ranging theoretical orientation andwith the opportunity to create relationships with internationalvenues and art centres. Hands on experience, international traveland seminars on theory lay the groundwork for the individualstudent’s choreographic efforts.

The Master’s program in Choreography also serves as preparationfor education at the doctoral and post-doctoral level, and thestudent is therefore required to produce knowledge which is newboth to the student, the art world as a whole and to the rest ofsociety. Once a firm foundation in the methodology of artisticresearch has been established, students are given the opportunityto articulate their own viewpoints on artistic research. Theprogram can be seen as a laboratory which stimulates theproduction of experimentation and knowledge. Our aim is to achieve a broader and deeper understanding of choreography as an artistic method which can be made use of by artists in many differentfields. The Choreography program places the highest importance oncontemporary choreographic approaches and encourages anexperimental attitude in relation to the student’s own work.
