Workshop: Casting & Auditions in English - Lisboa

CONDIÇÕES DE ACESSO: Applicants will be expected to have a good level of English (Upper Intermediate/Advanced) and undergo a small written test online to ascertain their level of English and describe what difficulties they generally encounter in castings.
PROGRAMA/OBJECTIVOS: This is a practical course designed for Portuguese actors auditioning for English speaking roles. It is aimed at providing Portuguese actors with the tools to help them feel more at ease when auditioning in English. It will include a casting simulation, presentation and practice of typical questions the actor needs to ask and answer in the audition interview, talking about professional biography, breaking down an English text for meaning, pronunciation, stress and intonation and, most importantly, practice in delivering a text in English. Actors will be “coached” by trainers using English dialogues and texts, as well as being expected to learn a short audition piece in English to present to the class.

AMANDA BOOTH
Amanda Booth has lived in Portugal for many years. She has a long experience of teaching English which includes several courses specifically designed for Portuguese students attending the Curso de Formaçâo Profissional de Actores at ACT. As an actress she has performed English theatre in a variety of venues in Portugal as well as performing translated pieces written by Portuguese playwrights in the UK . She worked for SIC, RTP and RDP for a number of years as a voice over, presenter and translator. At present her work consists of English voiceovers, translations and voice coaching for public speaking events as well as voice direction for animated film and audio CDs for Portuguese school children learning English .

NORMAN MAcCALLUM
He has worked in television, theatre and radio here in Portugal and in Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, India and the United Kingdom.
He has successfully coached media and performing arts graduates with the UK's Television and Radio Training Unit; been a Director of Studies with a Portuguese language school; trained TV presenters in the UK and, as an award-winning actor who has appeared in novelas and drama series both here in Portugal and in Britain, he knows only too well how important it is to make the 'right' impression at casting sessions.
In his late fifties, Norman is an empathetic Scotsman with a gentle sense of humour. With his co-tutor Amanda Booth, Norman will help to unravel the mysteries of the casting session in these classes and instill a heightened sense of awareness and confidence in each of the participants.
