Solo and Duo Dance International Festival, Budapest, Jan 2008 (deadline: 15 Oct)

SOLO DANCE AND DUO DANCE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL WILL BE HELD IN JANUARY 2008 - ORGANISED BY ORKESZTIKA FOUNDATION IN BUDAPEST, HUNGARY.

New, short dance productions are wanted!

Continuing the traditions of the previous festivals, we would like to keep at our goals and apart from some regulations the dance groups can perform their show without restrictions. All the performances will be evaluated by a professional jury and the audience. Our Festival gives opportunity for individual dancers and dance groups to realise their artistic concepts and through this event they will get a feedback that they can use for developing themselves.

About the Festival:

The competition of the Festival can receive 20 solo and 20 duo performances. Unfortunately there is no possibility for more because of lack of time. The festival can not host performances in which there is no intention for a unique presentation, which means that improvisations, or a choreography that was performed before will not be accepted.

We want to ensure for everyone the possibility to perform, so the Festival 2008 has been completed with nomination-rounds because of the large number of perspective participants:

Our Polish partner EFERTE Dance Development Foundation organized 14th June, 2007 in Poland the second semi-finals of the Hungarian SoloDuo Festival. With the jury's decision, from the 17 performances, 2 duos and 1 solo got into the competition.

Our Czech partner, Duncan Center Conservatory?s organising the nomination round for Czech applicants semi-festival in October 2007.

The Hungarian nomination-round will be 16-17th November 2007 in the Mozdulatmevészeti Stúdió (Art of Movement Studio), which is opened for the audience.

Our aim is to organise semi-festivals nomination rounds in every European country to avoid the selection by videos. But until that, the organisers and the jury will have a look at the performances on dvd and chose the bests for the competition in October 2007.

The appliers who won the best solo or duo dance production in 2007, do not have to send a dvd of their new solo or duo, they go into the competitive program automatically.

This year we would like to emphasise the professional evaluation of each performance.
The sequence of the performances will be decided by chance.
We will ensure the same light technique and the same time-extent for the stage rehearsal for all the participants of the Festival. The size of the stage is 8 x 8 m.
You can apply to the Festival with short solo or duo dance performances under the following conditions:

- Dance performances that were already presented can not participate in the Festival.
- Applicants must be at least 16 years old
- The length of a solo performance can not be more than 6 minutes and no more than 9 minutes in the case of duo performances. Overrunning these time limits cause automatically disqualification of the participant.
- Tools or instruments can be used in the performances but only if their installation can not take more than 30 seconds in the première. Tools (candles, water, dye) that can damage or soil the stage floor are forbidden to use.
- One choreographer or performer just can participate maximum in one solo and one duo.

The foundation can give free accomodation to 20 foreign participants and catering too, but can not pay the travelling costs.

Application deadline: 15th of October, 2007, arrival date of the Application form, and the DVD!

Pointe to Point, 5th Asia-Europe Dance Forum, Beijing & Guizhou, China, 13-24 Nov (deadline: 10 Aug)

Pointe to Point - The Fifth Asia-Europe Dance Forum, Beijing & Guizhou, China, 13 - 24 November 2007 - Call for choreographer/dancers and for composer/improvisers from Asia and Europe.

Organizers: Asia Europe Foundation & China Dance Association

Open Call for Applications

For Choreographer-Dancers & For Composer-Improvisers

Deadline: 10th August 2007

Pointe to Point, as one of the Asia-Europe Foundation’s (www.asef.org) Young Artist Exchange initiatives, aims to empower aspiring young artists from Asia and Europe to reflect upon their views of contemporary society through their individual artistic expressions. It is committed to providing young people with a process-oriented platform for artistic exchange and dialogue through the arts.

The aim of this year’s Pointe to Point project is to provide an avenue for new inspirations, discoveries and to instigate questions. This project will inquire into the relationships between tradition and contemporary, between dance in urban and rural contexts and also between dance and music. Although primarily a project for dance the intention is to allow dance and music to be treated on an equal basis, working from the beginning from a kind of mutual “ground zero”.

This year’s edition of Pointe to Point takes place in China. A research trip will be made to the remote rural areas of the province of Guizhou where the Miao Minority lives and has preserved their ancient traditions of dance and music. The observations and impressions gathered in Guizhou by the 12 selected choreographer-dancers and 6 selected composer-improvisers from Asia and Europe will serve as inspiration for five days of intensive artistic collaboration in Beijing. The process and results will be shared with the audience in Beijing after the public presentation.

A team of 4 artistic advisors from Europe and Asia - Susan Buirge (USA/France), Wen Hui (China), Fabrizio Cassol (Belgium/Italy) & Joyce Koh (Singapore) - will facilitate the process and give artistic advice to the participants during the whole period of the project.

New Visions/New Voices, Washington, USA (deadline: Aug 1)

New Visions/New Voices - call for theatre projects at any stage of development process. Open to international projects of any nationality but must be in English language.

Since 1991, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has sponsored a biennial festival called New Visions/New Voices, a program which helps theaters develop new American plays for children and young people.

During each festival, between six and eight artistic teams rehearse and rewrite over a five day period, and then all the projects are presented as staged readings before a national audience of fellow artistic, administrative, and academic practitioners in the field.

For the next festival, in April of 2008, Center is planning on again having two international projects join five projects from the United States. Because all the writers and directors work with local Washington DC professional actors, the scripts must be in English.

2006 was the Center’s first festival to include international projects, and we had successful ones from the Unicorn Theatre in London and Windmill Performing Arts in Adelaide, Australia.

Projects may be at any stage of the development process, from a completed draft nearly ready for production to a treatment at the conception stage. Artistic teams - playwrights, directors, composers - will come to Washington and rehearse and evaluate their work for five days and then present the projects as staged readings, followed by a monitored discussion before an invited audience of fellow artistic, academic and administrative advocates in the field.

The artistic teams have the freedom to move at their own pace in setting their week's end goals and almost everyone who's participated in past festivals has found it to be a wonderfully creative experience. Remember, please, that applications need to come from theaters.

A complete listing of past participants - playwrights, directors, and theaters - is at Kennedy CenterNew Visions 2002 and an article about the 2002 edition of New Visions is at

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I submit a proposal for New Visions/New Voices?

A producing theater submits a proposal including a director, a playwright, and a work-in-progress for consideration. Previously produced scripts are not eligible. Submissions can be in the form of a script or a detailed treatment or scenario of a proposed project. If the proposal is a treatment or scenario, we will ask that playwrights submit a writing sample to illustrate their style. Projects must also be part of a forthcoming season at the producing theater.

New Visions/New Voices is unique in that submissions can be at any stage of development, ranging from an idea to a script that has had other readings that is almost ready for production.

2. What happens if I'm selected?

The producing theaters of the selected projects are provided with an honorarium from the Kennedy Center to assist with personal expenses. The Kennedy Center will provide travel for the creative teams (director, playwright, and, if a musical, composer) to come to Washington, DC. The producing theater needs to cover housing, per diem, and fees for their creative team. . The Kennedy Center provides actors, stage managers, music directors, and dramaturgical and production support. Projects rehearse three to four hours a day, allowing time for rewrites, within Actor's Equity staged reading guidelines.

The deadline for submission is August 1, 2007.

Call for proposals for Les Eurotopiques festival in Tourcoing in May/June 2008

La Virgule, the Cross-border Centre for Theatre Creation, is organising "Les Eurotopiques" – a festival of theatre projects to be presented to the public in the form of drama readings.

The festival will take place at the Salon de Théâtre in Tourcoing in May and June 2008. We would like to invite you to take part. Project drafts should include a summary, a statement of intent, a description of the characters, a short CV of the author and artistic team, and a short excerpt from the play.

Draft projects in their original language, with a French or English translation if necessary, should be sent to La Virgule by 1st September 2007.

Please see the description sheet and details of the call for proposals which can be downloaded in English, French and Dutch versions on the IETM website at: Les Eurotopiques
