Description:

1 male & 2 female performers (playing age 19–23) required for BIGBREATH IN — a devised show for children. Tristan Bates Theatre & schools, June 2009.

Big Breath In is a devised piece of physical theatre suitable fora dults and children. First produced in Oxford, the show is transferring to the Tristan Bates, Covent Garden, for a limited run, and touring to local schools.

A boy loses a balloon, falls asleep and then finds a trunk. Every object in the trunk propels him towards a different magical world, each of which points him towards his balloon. The play is mostly wordless though it does contain smatterings of dialogue. There is live music throughout, and there are moments of singing and dancing (thoughnot at all ‘musical theatre’).

You need to be an excellent actor, able to communicate with audienceand fellow actors without the need to speak. You need to becomfortable singing and dancing – none of this is difficult butskill/experience will help. One of the female roles has a short solosong so we’re looking for one strong female singer. Above all, youneed to be committed, creative and ready to work with an ensemble overan intense rehearsal process, which will constitute a mixture ofre-devising material and re-creating what was done first time round.

Rehearsals will be full-time and residential, in Gloucestershire 25th May – 5th June with a preview on 6th June. You must be totally free during this period. The weekend of 30th/31st will be free. Food and lodging will be paid. The show then runs 8th – 29th June, playing in the theatre three times a week, including daytime performances, and in schools on remaining days.

Cast members will receive £300, plus expenses for rehearsals as above.

All roles require a playing age of 19-23. Please only apply if you’re available for all the rehearsal and performance dates.
