Register for the audition for the PEPCC Course 2nd year - Lisbon

Choreographic Creation, Dance Research and Training Programme, 17-18 July, Forum Dança, Lisbon, Portugal (deadline: 10 July 2011)

Forum Dança is admitting students for the 2nd year of PEPCC, that will begin on the 5th September 2011. The course is destined for people who have an advanced level education in contemporary dance and have the will to professionally advance in this area.

Access conditions:
● Advanced level education in contemporary dance
● High school (secondary level)
● Applications are due to July 10th and should include the application form, a resume, a picture, a motivation letter and a recommendation letter. Download the application form.
● Audition (technical class, creative exercises, a 3’ solo max) and an interview.

The PEPCC is destined for youngsters from 19 to 28 years of age, both Portuguese and foreign. It is necessary previous dance experience, good physical condition, curiosity, creativity and interest in arts and in actual cultural phenomena. The applications will be submitted to a first selection of resumes.

PEPCC stands for Programa de Estudo, Pesquisa e Criaçao Coreografica - Choreographic Creation, Dance Research and Training Programme. It is both a pedagogical and an artistic project. It’s an intensive and advanced course in contemporary dance. It is addressed to those who want to proceed professionally in the dance field, as dancers as well as choreographers.

PEPCC enables knowledge and practice within a broad spectrum of both experience and artistic knowledge. It contextualizes this work in the wide universe that is western contemporary choreographic production. It promotes training and research on techniques, methodologies and artistic processes. It encourages and enables students to develop critical and insightful thinking about themselves and about the current creative reality. It promotes interdisciplinary crossings, namely with other arts and spheres of knowledge.

PEPCC aims towards the integration in the professional contemporary dance artistic community, by promoting in its students both autonomy and confidence in the beginning of their own artistic path and on their ability of positioning and taking a stand by themselves in the international artistic scene.In this process, students will draw their own personal path that will allow for them to work in the interpretation and/or creation areas.

PEPCC is an international training that offers a programme in touch with Portuguese reality and within a broad international context. It relies on teachers and creators of different nationalities, allowing students to artistically relate with influential authors of the international contemporary scene.

Training:
PEPCC runs for a total period of two school years, corresponding to two 40 week sets: one on each year.
* The first year focuses on learning, training, experimenting and developing the founding languages and processes of contemporary dance and on structuring and consolidating a thinking and acting body.
* The second year focuses on the liaison with performance and stage, being it a space of interpretation and creation. During this period, students are encouraged and guided towards: creating their own artistic stand; searching and enriching a creative or interpretative speech; making autonomous and responsible choices; deepening their abilities and scenic presence.

Contents:
Contemporary dance technique; ballet; yoga; chi kung; voice; improvisation, composition, repertoire seminars; theatre and music seminars; creation workshops; creation residencies; theoretical seminars (dance history, art history, art theory, philosophy); plastic arts/video; light design; production; showings; performances.

Fees:
Inscription: 120€
Monthly fee: 250€, 10 and a half months a year

Scholarships:
Forum Dança intent to grant 5 scholarships of about 300€/month.
Once the final audition is over, the selected candidates who want to apply for a scholarship will have to present:
* Documents attesting previous attempts for other scholarships, that have been denied;
* Brief presentation of their financial needs while attending PEPCC;
* Presentation of financial resources available to face those expenses;
* Presentation of last year annual income declaration (tax presentation).

The search for scholarships should start before the selection process. Forum Dança suggests that dancers aim for support also for traveling cost, housing and food, both at a national and at a local level, within their local community.

Language:
Students should speak average Portuguese.
Classes are taught in both Portuguese and English.
