Dance Camera Istanbul: 1st international videodance festival in Turkey (deadline: 3 Mar)

Dance Camera Istanbul presents the First International Videodance Festival in Turkey and invites entries in various categories. The festival takes place 26 April - 2nd May 2007.

Dance Camera Istanbul showcases international dance films and experimental movement based films by contemporary video artists and choreographers from student to professional level. The festival supports films which investigate the ongoing search for movement and spaces, in and out of bodies. The aim of the festival is, to build a space for both dancers and filmmakers. Sharing the ideas, working together, learning and presenting.

Dance Camera Istanbul will be the first international dance video and film festival in Turkey. Also the festival and the organisation will take a role of an International Information Center for dance filmmakers, and other artists. The Program includes Daily Screenings, Live Performances, Forums, Dancefilm Workshops and the International Dance Video Competition.

Competition
The major event in the festival is the international competition. Filmmakers can submit films within the categories of: Fiction, Stage-Studio Recording, Camera Re-work, Documentary, Choreography For The Camera and Experimental Video. The only criteria is that it must have been produced between 2005 and 2007. Deadline for entries is March 3rd 2007 - entry form on the website (see below).

For this videos and films, French Institute in Istanbul, Plato Film School, Dansbulusma dance studios and several cinema saloons in Beyoglu are supporting the screening. And also filmmakers and dancers who will join the Dancefilm Workshops before the festival, can apply for competition with their projects.

Dancefilm Workshops
The workshops will be directed by acclaimed international video artists and filmmakers who will introduce different approaches to camera, dance and movement as well as providing informations about video dance history, archives and links for further research.

The workshops will take place at Dansbulusma Istanbul studios, Plato Film School – with film sets, cameras, editing studios and cinema saloons provided, as well as access to indoor and outdoor spaces for filming. The workshops will be held approximately two weeks before the main festival screenings, as to provide the opportunity for workshop participants to enter their films in the competition held later in the festival.

Screenings
Dance Camera Istanbul in collaboration with a major partner, Dansbulusma Istanbul will make dance video screenings every sunday in their studios with dancers and students as a pre-information about dance filming and the festival. This screenings will be supported by Koc University and Canbaz Bar.

Performances Fesival will host several dance and music performances. Performances which are presented in Turkey and other different countries. Also Paper Ship - a dance performance which has presented in Biennale De La Danse De Lyon, will be presented in the last day of Festival
