NEW DANCE – skills and technique

My work includes generally a program to release the muscular system. To focus more on our skeleton I use a couple of exercises along the Alexander Technique to open up and widen the bone structure throughout a specific alignment. Further on I work with the idea, that a body in motion should focus on the moments of movement before and after the balance. That means to me, that a quasi falling body is on the flow to combine A with B, where the dance starts to exist inside the movement.
Here we find our body related to our memory and to an objective. Where do I move away from and what do I focus on while my body travels in space? Independent from this question, we are always in relation to our physical architecture, the physical space our body is surrounded by and other bodies and objects in that space. These relations we have to combine, to be aware of and to do instant decisions, because while one or more of those elements are in motion, the whole relation is permanently changing.
Technically we will work along the principals of José Limón and F. M. Alexander, where we will focus basically on alignment, breathing and on inner impulses to combine elements to sequences.
The exercises and experiences which I´ve mentioned before are asking basically the courage to drop out of that technical preciseness in favour of a strong connection towards the self, towards the space and towards others regarding to inner and outer spacing and timing. On that point this also integrates and accepts any individual body and also the fantasy of each student with all their differences in experience and age.
The chance to be creative on a level of instant composing gives chances to integrate own abilities apart from norms regarding technical training. It also gives the possibility to use fantasy and personal sensations for the form and for the abstract. It opens a door to a further dimension of instant composition. In that sense this work is more oriented on the individual level than on the norms of a technical body language.
For any performer it is quite important to trust, reflect and to practice once again the fundamentals of those elements. For any beginner it is a useful tool to step into a new area of consciousness, to build other tissues of dance movement and developing awareness. The building up of physical communication bases for each individual and also for the group has the same importance, as to create a starting point to place personal skills and movement textures on. Finally the increasing of a good consciousness and an understanding of the challenge to explore the balance between the demand of norms and the developing of personal skills is the general frame of my work.

Objectivos Gerais
Pretende-se com este workshop consciencializar a inteligência física dos estudantes na base de uma rigorosa disciplina física e mental. Transmitir ao aluno o entendimento básico das necessidades corporais do actor relacionando esta aprendizagem com as exigências físicas que a profissão requer. Despertar a consciência da estrutura anatómica do movimento. Desenvolver a relação entre as diferentes modalidades tónicas e dinâmicas do movimento com as necessidades de atenção e focalização mental. Criar uma relação física expressiva na base das dinâmicas e musicalidades do movimento. Desenvolver a capacidade de adaptar estas “ferramentas” físicas a uma acção consciente, aplicada num contexto teatral. O objectivo global deste workshop é o de explorar o movimento e a organicidade corporal enquanto vectores de uma relação aplicada de forma consciente ao contexto teatral.
